Post-event Statement

Senior managers from 32 think tanks and research institutes across the Asia-Pacific region participated in ADBI’s first event organized for its knowledge partners. The participants, representing the premier knowledge institutions from 20 of ADB member countries, spent 4 days in Tokyo strengthening their institute’s knowledge management and knowledge sharing strategies and exploring opportunities to increase synergy and achieve greater policy impact for development in Asia. A summary of proceedings and a series profiling think tanks which participated in the workshop will be featured soon. Review the list of participants and the workshop program.

Purpose

This course is designed to strengthen networking and improve synergy among Asian Think Tanks by enhancing their knowledge management and knowledge sharing strategies, and establishing a pragmatic framework for regional collaboration.

Background

Collaboration with and capacity building of regional think tanks and research institutes is a critical part of ADBI’s strategic approach for contributing to the ongoing development research and policy dialogue in the region. As a first step, ADBI’s Research Division prepared a directory of Asian think tanks working on development and economics.

To facilitate networking, encourage collaboration and strengthen regional coordination, the directory provides contact details and program summaries of over 70 think tanks from 26 countries in the Asia-Pacific that are primarily involved in development research.

This course is the next step in ADBI’s strategic approach to enhance the knowledge management and knowledge sharing of regional ATTs, and establish a workable framework for collaboration and coordination among themselves and with ADBI.

Objectives

The workshop will provide participants with an opportunity to evaluate their think tank’s knowledge management objectives and strategy, and prepare an action plan to strengthen the think tank’s knowledge sharing to more effectively achieve its research and development objectives. The workshop will also enable participating think tanks to explore opportunities for improving coordination and collaboration. During the workshop participants will outline their ongoing research programs, and explore opportunities for collaboration with each other and with ADBI.
