2nd Workshop on Contract Farming and Poverty Reduction: Analytical Framework and Expected OutputBackgroundThis workshop is the second workshop of an on-going research program on contract farming and poverty reduction under ADB's Regional Technical Assistance (RETA) Making Markets Work Better for the Poor of Cambodia, Lao PDR, and Viet Nam. ADBI is now implementing the Cambodia and Lao PDR components. The first workshop was successfully held 9-12 August 2004. It identified and prioritized research issues and participants discussed appropriate research methodologies. Since then, counterpart researchers have been elaborating research plans in their respective countries. This second workshop will bring together a smaller number of key researchers to present and discuss their proposed field research plan. ObjectivesWith field research activities on contract farming to be taking place in different countries, to ensure consistency and comparability of outputs, the workshop discussion will focus on standardizing analytical framework, data collection, data analysis and expected outputs for final ADBI approval. The workshop will also provide a forum to discuss preliminary research outputs of on going research activities in Thailand, which aims at drawing lessons for Cambodia and Lao PDR.
